Here’s the thing… our now annual fundraiser “Baggo, Brats N’ Blues” is a lot of fun. What’s not to love? Fun people, a good band, some beer, a sunny Sunday afternoon.
BUT, when you combine these elements with raising support for a meaningful cause, it is more than fun; it is impactful.
On Sunday, May 1, we – and about 400 old and new friends – created both fun and impact. Thank you for helping us raise enough dollars to cover more than one-half of an average home build cost!
If you attended the event, you know that a highlight of the afternoon was the symbolic “release” of a mortgage by Habitat homeowner Jimmie Adams. Jimmie paid her Habitat mortgage in full last December. Her adult daughter, who grew up in the house, attended with Jimmie and watched as the crowd counted down “3, 2, 1…” and her mother released a bouquet of balloons into the sky. Jimmie teared up – it wasn’t always an easy journey – and soaked in the cheers and applause. She kept saying, “ I didn’t know there would be so many people!”
Also in attendance were several future homebuyers who volunteered their time working the event as part of their required sweat equity hours. I know some of them had to be watching Jimmie and dreaming of the day they, too, can “release” their mortgage and own their home outright. Jimmie showed them, and her daughter and others present, that dreams do come true.

Good Day Farm, the presenting sponsor of the May 1 event, summed it up best:
Good Day, Good People, Good Community.
We will see you next year! THANK YOU!!
