A day in the life
Working as a ReStore Cashier, no two days are ever the same! A typical day will include the following responsibilities:

Greet and assist customers

Be able to answer basic questions about Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore
-
Be aware of store policies and volunteer guidelines
-
Assist customers out the door with purchases, loading of purchased items as needed
-
Confirm customer has paid with receipt before loading
-
Be aware of potentially dangerous hazards around the ReStore. For example, extensions cords crossing walkways or paths, broken glass, liquids, or any obstacle that could cause a customer to trip and fall. If you are unable to remedy the situation, immediately report it to a manager

Assess value of donations and assign a price based on condition and current value. If unsure, seek assistance from a manager

Assist in maintaining store inventory and organizing in a manner that best assists the overall operation

Each associate will be assigned a designated area for which they are primarily responsible to maintain. However, all associates are expected to assist in other areas as needed.

NEVER leave cash register unattended
-
Answer telephone (Habitat ReStore, May I help you?), and direct call
-
Processing payments correctly for items being purchased, following ReStore Payment guidelines
-
Document items sold with a scheduled pickup time. Complete pickup form with all needed information for follow up as needed.

Properly verify purchased pickups with copy of receipt
-
Document items placed on hold
-
Monitor inventory of purchased items for restock. Example: Rugs, Paint, Tools, Bulbs.

Keep area around registers organized and clean
-
Keep office desk and computer workstation free and clear of any items
-
Sign in Volunteers / Community Service, noting hours worked
-
Manage Daily Radio checkout list and account for all radios at the end of the day
-
Other duties as assigned

Goal Oriented: Work with a sense of urgency, striving for efficiency that consistently meets production goals

Customer-Focused: Provide exceptional customer service by promptly greeting and assisting donors in the loading and unloading of donated items

Ability to bend, lift, move product between locations and work on one's feet for an entire shift; often standing in a stationary position
-
Lift and move up to 50 pounds of donations on a regular basis
-
Efficiently handle pricing guns in a repetitive manner

Donation sorting
-
Establish proper set-up of the donation/processing systems are in place for the start of the day
-
Uphold and demonstrate the mission, values, and principles of Habitat for Humanity
