director of marketing and communications - full time

Reports to: Executive Director


This new position will be responsible for strategic marketing and communications with both internal and external target audiences, including but not limited to current and prospective donors, prospective homebuyers, ReStore customers and donors, volunteers, media and the general public. This Director will work closely with team members who oversee Development (fundraising), Construction, Homeowner Services and ReStore programs, helping all achieve annual and long-range operating and mission goals.

Essential duties and responsibilities
 

Strategic Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and implement annual and long-range marketing and communications strategies that support HFHCA's mission, programs, fundraising goals, ReStores, and organizational priorities.

  • Develop the annual marketing and communications budget and manage departmental expenditures to maximize reach and effectiveness.

  • Monitor marketing, communications, digital, and nonprofit-sector trends and recommend new strategies, platforms, and opportunities as appropriate.

  • Use website, social media, email, advertising, and other performance data to evaluate communications efforts and make recommendations for improvement.
     

Content, Digital & Brand Management

  • Oversee and manage HFHCA's communications channels, including the affiliate and ReStore social media accounts, website, email communications, newsletters, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other relevant platforms, developing and publishing engaging content appropriate to each channel.

  • Maintain HFHCA's brand identity, messaging, logo usage, and visual standards across internal and external communications in accordance with Habitat for Humanity International guidelines.

  • Manage the development and production of marketing materials, advertising, signage, branded merchandise, presentations, and other collateral.

  • Lead production of HFHCA's annual report and other significant publications, including writing, photography, design, editing, proofreading, production, and distribution.

  • Capture and/or coordinate photography and short-form video content for use across digital and print communications.

  • Create general organizational presentations and assist other departments with presentations, signage, and communications materials as needed.

Media & Public Relations

  • Develop compelling stories highlighting HFHCA's homeowners, volunteers, donors, ReStores, programs, partnerships, and community impact.

  • Identify earned-media opportunities, develop and maintain relationships with local media, and coordinate media requests, interviews, photo opportunities, and other public-relations activities.

  • Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, feature stories, and other media communications.

  • Serve as an HFHCA spokesperson when designated by the Executive Director.
     

Events & Organizational Support

  • Coordinate marketing and communications for fundraisers, recognition events, groundbreaking and dedication events, photo opportunities, and other special events.

  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with media representatives, vendors, corporate partners, community organizations, and other external stakeholders.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.

  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, grammar, and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to independently produce polished digital and print communications from concept through publication.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, volunteers, homeowners, donors, community partners, media representatives, vendors, and other stakeholders in both individual and group settings.



Required technical and digital skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and shared file management.

  • Strong working knowledge of Canva or comparable graphic-design software.

  • Experience managing organizational accounts on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other relevant social media platforms.

  • Experience with email marketing platforms and digital newsletter production.

  • Ability to capture quality photographs and short-form video using a smartphone or camera and perform basic editing for web, email, social media, and print use.

Preferred qualifications and skills

  • Experience working in a nonprofit, mission-driven, community development, housing, fundraising, or similar organization.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign.

  • Experience with paid digital advertising platforms such as Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads.

  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, or comparable digital analytics tools.

  • Experience with donor databases, CRM systems, peer-to-peer fundraising platforms, or nonprofit marketing/fundraising systems such as Qgiv.

  • Experience with advanced photography, video production/editing, website administration, or SEO.

  • Familiarity with responsible use of generative AI tools for brainstorming, research, content development, editing, and marketing workflow efficiency.

  • Experience working with media and serving as an organizational spokesperson.
