Through the Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) Program, Habitat for Humanity will serve more families by responding to community needs with an expanded array of products, services and partnerships, enhancing the quality of life for all.

What is Neighborhood Revitalization?

Through Habitat for Humanity’s neighborhood revitalization (NR) work, we tailor our efforts by partnering locally with residents and community leaders and organizations to best address real concerns and improve the lives of the people who live in the neighborhood.

By working with the residents to understand their needs and concerns, we empower individuals to lead the projects they want to see. Alongside Habitat, residents work with churches, schools, new and longstanding neighborhood coalitions, local government and other community partners to achieve their goals.

What are some examples of NR projects?

Because challenges and aspirations of each neighborhood are different, the NR projects have to be tailored to fit the goals of each community.

That’s why NR can look like anything like the following:

  • Exterior work performed to alleviate critical health, life, and safety issues or code violations

  • Accessibility modifications like ramps, door modifications

  • Roof and porch repair

  • Weatherization and home preservation

What are ways I can get involved?

You can get involved on a regular basis and become a ReVive Core Volunteer or get involved as often as your schedule allows. NR projects are great for medium (4-10) to large (11+) groups.

Volunteers generally participate from Tuesdays through Saturdays starting at 8:30 am to 2 pm, depending on the group's size and the age & ability of the volunteers.

We do work with groups who would like to volunteer outside of this schedule. You would just need to contact the NR Volunteer Coordinator to discuss different volunteer options.

What if I have little to none construction experience?

No problem!

The majority of NR projects do not require experience. Additionally, we have trained and certified Habitat staff acting as supervisors for all projects.

What is Rock the Block?

Rock the Block is a huge one-day volunteer event held in our focus neighborhood of that quarter.

We assist our focus neighborhood residents with:

  • Needed repairs

  • Weatherization

  • Safety and Accessibility

  • Landscaping

  • Beautification of homes and their neighborhood

Rock the Block provides a path for residents, organizations, volunteers, and Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas to come together to further our mission of building strength, stability and self-reliance.
